A Journey of Service, Education, and Diverse Interests

John

Hello! I'm John Hanson, a proud Wisconsinite, dedicated former Marine Corps Sergeant, and a passionate professional with a rich blend of experiences. My journey has spanned from the heart of Wisconsin to the global stage, shaped by a commitment to service, a quest for knowledge, and a love for community.

Marine Corps and Beyond

My journey began in Wisconsin, leading me to serve as an infantry Marine. Deployed to Barwanah in Al-Anbar province, Iraq in 2006, I embraced the challenges and responsibilities of military life. After my service, I returned to Wisconsin, transitioning my skills to the civilian world and academia.

Academic Achievements

I pursued my education with vigor, starting at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County with an Associates in Liberal Studies, achieving a remarkable 3.9 GPA. My academic journey continued at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a 3.8 GPA, graduating with honors. I also hold an Associate’s Degree in Web and Mobile Development from Madison Area Technical College.

As a student, I was deeply involved in leadership roles, notably as the Student Government Association President, where I honed my leadership skills and was recognized with the Lee Grugel Memorial Leadership Award and the University of Wisconsin Colleges Chancellor's Award.

Professional Path

My career path is diverse, reflecting my adaptability and commitment to growth. I've served in various roles - from Manager positions to a .NET Software Engineer one at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Department of Information Technology. My experiences in customer service, campaign management, and political consulting have further enriched my professional profile.

Personal Life and Interests

Beyond my professional and academic endeavors, I am passionate about generative AI and a dedicated sports fan, especially in football and baseball. I enjoy comedy movies and am an avid reader, continually expanding my horizons. At home, I navigate the joys and challenges of parenting my four-year-old son as a single father, following my divorce in 2023. This personal journey has taught me resilience and the importance of emotional intelligence in adapting to life's changes.

I cherish the company of my two dogs and find balance in my life as an easy-going, extroverted introvert, skilled in connecting with people and solving problems.

Engaging with the Community

I believe in the power of community engagement, leveraging my diverse experiences to contribute positively to societal development. Whether through discussions on technology, sharing insights on parenting, or simply engaging in a good laugh over a comedy movie, I am always eager to connect and grow with others.
